Fourteen years of trauma-informed chiropractic care in Oakland, built around consent, the nervous system, and knowing when not to adjust.
Book with Dr. Ben Read His Approach
Dr. Ben Glass takes a creative approach to life, and believes in developing health through experience. He has been serving the Oakland community for 14+ years, helping patients become more active participants in their own healing rather than passive recipients of care.
Dr. Ben holds a Doctorate of Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Temple University. He is a certified massage therapist, certified in Foundation Training, and holds post-graduate certifications that shape how he approaches soft tissue and movement alongside adjustment-based care.
He is bilingual — offering full consultations and treatment in English and Spanish — and lives in Oakland with his family.
Most people who walk into The Shift have already been to a chiropractor somewhere else. Usually the visit was short. Usually there was a quick intake, a quick adjustment, a quick goodbye. Sometimes it helped. Sometimes it didn't. Sometimes it scared them off the profession entirely.
Dr. Ben practices differently. His work is trauma-informed, which is a phrase that gets used a lot and often means nothing. Here it means something specific. It means the nervous system is the starting point of every session, not the spine. It means consent is requested for every technique, not assumed from the intake form. It means an adjustment happens when an adjustment is what the body is asking for — and not before.
"The Shift I see most in people is their awareness to know when they are balanced and what to do to keep themselves in balance."
That is the promise. It sounds simple. In practice it takes years of clinical discernment to do well. Dr. Ben has been doing it since 2011.
The combination of his credentials matters more than any single certification. A chiropractor who also understands manual soft-tissue work and postural rehabilitation has more tools, which means more options for patients whose bodies don't respond well to adjustment-only care. Many of the patients at The Shift fall into that category.
