Teaching hygienic movement to a group of people at Startup Weekend Oakland:Black Male Achievement was really fun to participate in. It is a hackathon, so a variety of people joined together in groups to work on different kinds of applications for societal progress over a 56 hours time span. The pitch I gave had to do with childhood obesity and combating the movement deficiency our kids are being plagued by due to their technology saturated life. A few young boys and I ended up joining our ideas together and worked throughout the hackathon with programmers, business people and other healthcare advisors to create an app called healthy bird(play on Flappybird). We were able to learn from each other and dialogue on the importance of taking regular care of the spine utilizing regular movement throughout the day. Our app served to remind kids to move and awarded them points for moving. They could join up into teams to compete for who could move more in a day. A step in the right direction and a sign of great ideas to come out of our future generations. Moving is vital to feeding our brain the essential required nutrients it needs in order to reach its potential.

Sitting while watching video games is putting our young populations in a movement deficient, flexed forward position which impinges on the blood flowing through the spinal canal and negatively impacts the function in their spine. The spinal canal can be thought of as being booby trapped due to the daily stresses of life, such as prolonged sitting. Our goal at The Shift is to shift the awareness that people have of the importance of a healthy functioning spine and nervous system. With an expanded consciousness of living from the inside-out and listening to what your body is craving(regular movement!) a new and improved outlook can be created in life. By sitting less and moving more, we can all enjoy greater possibilities in what our body-mind can achieve and handle in life.Move More, Breath Deep, Release.
